Hascombe Court, Godalming, Surrey

Preserving historic building fabric required an outstanding sense of attention to detail. The refined detailing, methodology and finishes for the subtle repairs and sensitive insertions to this Grade II Listed Building in Surrey, which was built in the style of Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1906 and has eight bedrooms, were developed close cooperation from Rowan Orchid A rchitects and the builder and the Conservation officer.

The glazing, enclosing the previously open walkway, was set back behind the existing, weathered oak columns, with the black frame only faintly visible to hint at the modern addition to the historic facade. Where damage to stone, brick, timber and metal elements required repairs, these were carried out in style and materiality to match the traditional, crafted quality often fabricated as bespoke elements.
